Gather Requirement - Task Analysis

Introduction

For this project phase 2, We are testing the traditional/conventional or usual trash bin that is being used by almost everyone in almost every building. There are three things that we test which are to sort the trash manually, take out/clean up the full trash bin and make a request to recycle newspapers to the nearest location .


We also try to understand how people/targeted users are using the trash bin and how useful/convenient is the design/ergonomic and also understanding their thought process for each task. For task 3 specifically, we use Recircle app which is a mobile application that aims to digitalize the recycling industry in Malaysia. It can make it easier for the user to recycle their unwanted stuff such as plastic bottles, boxes, mixed metal and also old newspapers. In addition, the goal of the app is to educate people more about 3R and to have a clean environment.

Finding for HTA from Task 1

Based on the HTA that we have constructed for Task 1, the step for user 1, 2 and 3 going through the same process.

Finding for HTA from Task 2

Based on the HTA that we have built for Task 2, the user 1 and user 2 need to take out the rubbish outside to ease the pickup process by the waste manager. However they need to check the trash can frequently because if the trash can is partially full. It is because it will be a waste of energy and space if they take out the can partially empty. For user 3 their work only to pick up the rubbish that had been taken out by user 1 and user 2 to the waste separation center.

Based on the HTA that we have design for Task 3, the user 1 will select the current location directly from the application. While user 2 and 3 will enter the chosen address in the application.


Design Requirements

From the information and user opinions that we have collected through the interview session that can be seen in the video, there are some additional features that we can embed into our product to help ease users’ work in recycling activities.


We decided to add an automatic sorting system embedded in the dustbin that can help sort the trash into a few categories that can help users to save time rather than manually sort the trash. At the same time, it can also reduce the burden of some users like housewives that are busy with daily chores and cleaning the house.
